November 15, 2011 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Crafts, Little Flowers, Morning Offering

morning offering pillow case v2
Here is a simple and quick craft that I had my Little Flowers group complete for the virtue of self-control.  My hope was that they exercise self-control by saying their Morning Offering daily, upon rising.   The Morning Offering Pillow Case is to serve as a reminder to the girls.
It would also make a great gift on any occasion.
Supplies:

  1. Pillow case
  2. Iron-on transfer paper
  3. Printer
  4. Iron
  5. Iron board
  6. Scissors
  7. Image to print
I found the beautiful images at Holy Reflections.  You may click on the image to print.

Ruth & Naomi ~ Friendliness ~ Blue Phox

November 15, 2011 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Friendliness, Little Flowers, Ruth and Naomi

Be polite, amiable and friendly to
every one; but be all this in reality. A young
woman who behaves with great friendliness toward
any person she secretly detests and talks about in
an unkind manner, plays the part of a hypocrite.
In the Garden of Olives, Judas greeted and kissed
the Redeemer, at the very time when he was
treating Him with shameful ingratitude and dis-
graceful treachery. ~ Father Lasance, Catholic Girl’s Guide

We met in October for our second meeting of the 2011-2012 session.  Ruth & Naomi were the saints chosen for the month.

We had 30 girls in attendance.  Two new girls joined us.  We are now at a grand total of 37.

As always, we started with Mass.  The girls are working on showing their Love of God by reverently entering the Church, participating in Mass, and exiting the Church.  We had a small hiccup on the exiting.  It required us to make another attempt and shorten our snack/social time.  All for!

We recapped what we learned last month, Mary-Mother of God and cheerfulness.  A few girls volunteered to recite the designated memory verse.

We then discussed the lives of Ruth & Naomi.  I retold their story from this recap.  The girls were drawn into Ruth’s selflessness and devotion to her mother-in-law and friend, Naomi.  The girls further discussed the virtue of friendliness.  As always, the girls enjoyed sharing their ways to show friendliness.

Father L was able to make a visit this month.  Father spoke about the Holy Rosary, Guardian Angels, and he offered a Q&A session.  The girls were allowed to ask Father anything that their heart desired.  They were delighted to learn more about Father L.  He closed his session with a blessing.

Friendship Rosary

I chose a craft that tied in friends and the Rosary (since it was the month of Our Lady of the Rosary),a single decade friendship rosary.  I had plenty of help from moms.

I divided the girls into groups of six.  The cord was pre-cut and knotted so that the girls could begin their beading.  One girl would take her rosary cord around the table.  Her fellow Little Flowers would place a bead of their choice onto the cord.  Once all the ten beads were threaded, the mom helper would tie another knot and assist the LF with the remainder of her decade rosary.  This process was repeated for each LF at the table.

Discernment of a Maiden

tac visit

Rose went on her first, and possibly her last, college visit in October.

She is completely smitten by this beautiful and faithful college.  Dad and I remain steadfast in prayer, praying for God’s will for this young girl who is so quickly becoming a young lady.

PRAYER FOR YOUTH TO BEG THE DIVINE DIRECTION
IN THE CHOICE OF A STATE OF LIFE.

O ALMIGHTY God! Whose wise and amiable prov-
idence watches over every human event, deign to
be my light and my counsel in all my undertakings,
particularly in the choice of a state of life. I know
that on this important step my sanctification and
salvation may in a great measure depend. I know
that I am incapable of discerning what may be best
for me; therefore I cast myself into Thy arms, beseech-
ing Thee, my God, Who hast sent me into this world
only to love and serve Thee, to direct by Thy grace
every moment and action of my life to the glorious
end of my creation. I renounce most sincerely every
other wish, than to fulfill Thy designs on my soul,
whatever they may be; and I beseech Thee to give me
the grace, by imbibing the true spirit of a Christian,
to qualify myself for any state of life to which Thy
adorable providence may call me. O my God! when-
ever it may become my duty to make a choice, do Thou
be my light and my counsel, and mercifully deign to
make the way known to me wherein I should walk, for
I have lifted up my soul to Thee. Preserve me from
listening to the suggestions of my own self-love, or
worldly prudence, in prejudice to Thy holy inspirations.
Thy good Spirit lead me into the right way, and
Thy adorable providence place me, not where I may
be happiest, according to the world, but in that state
in which I Shall love and serve Thee most perfectly,
and meet with most abundant means for working out
my salvation. This is all that I ask and all that I
desire; for what would it avail me to gain the whole
world, if, in the end, I were to lose my soul and to be
so unfortunate as to prefer temporal advantages and
worldly honors to the enjoyment of Thy divine presence
in a happy eternity?

Most holy Virgin Mary, take me under thy protection.

My good angel guardian and patron saints, pray
for me. Amen.

st isadore and holy cow

God, through the intercession  of St. Isidore, the holy Farmer, grant that we may overcome all feelings of pride. May we always serve You with that humility which pleases You, through his merits and example.

We made costumes out of our everyday attire since we were deep into our move.  Papi was St. Isadore and Dragonfly was his Holy Cow.  Sparkles was Mary Magdalene and Sweetie was Mary, Queen of Heaven.

Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ

October 31, 2011 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: 10 October, 10 October Saints, Christ the King, Consecration, Sacred Heart of Jesus

Christus Rex

Christus Rex
Sunday, October 26, 2011 is the feast of the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  One may gain a plenary indulgence by the public recitation of the Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

~~~
The kingship and empire of Christ have been recognized in the pious custom, practiced by many families, of dedicating themselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; not only families have performed this act of dedication, but nations, too, and kingdoms. In fact, the whole of the human race was at the instance of Pope Leo XIII, in the Holy Year 1900, consecrated to the Divine Heart.
We institute the Feast of the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ to be observed yearly throughout the whole world on the last Sunday of the month of October – the Sunday, that is, which immediately precedes the Feast of All Saints. We further ordain that the dedication of mankind to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which Our predecessor of saintly memory, Pope Pius X, commanded to be renewed yearly, be made annually on that day.
~ Quas Primas, Encyclical of Pope Pius XI
Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thy altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy most Sacred Heart. christusrex
Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.
Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.
Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: "Praise be to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and honor for ever." Amen.
