Grow in Devotion to Our Blessed Mother

February 11, 2021 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Brown Scapular, Consecration, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Lent, Pre-Lent, Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Leave a Comment

This one devotion was a catalyst for so many of our graces and refinements. It transformed us and brought us closer to Our Lord in ways that we never imagined possible. It also brought us to the traditions of the Faith & the Tridentine Mass.

It is why I placed it #1 on my list — devotion to the Blessed Mother. St. Louis de Montfort tells us the following.

“If, then, we establish solid devotion to our Blessed Lady, it is only to establish more perfectly devotion to Jesus Christ, and to provide an easy and secure means for finding Jesus Christ. If devotion to Our Lady removed us from Jesus Christ, we should have to reject it as an illusion of the devil; but so far from this being the case, devotion to Our Lady is, on the contrary, necessary for us…as a means of finding Jesus Christ perfectly, of loving Him tenderly, of serving Him faithfully.”

Here are some ways that you can grow to know, love, and honor Our Blessed Mother.

💙Make a Total Consecration as prescribed by St. Louis de Montfort — Do it as a family if possible.

💙Pray the Holy Rosary daily — If you already pray 5 decades, pray the entire 15 decades. Pray as a family.

💙Consecrate you’re Children to the BVM — We consecrate them in utero and renew at their baptism. They make their Total Consecration when they are old enough as we renew as a family.

💙Begin First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary – Our Lady of Fatima said, “I shall come to ask… that on the First Saturday of every month, Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world.”

💙Learn about & Enroll in the Brown Scapular and/or the Miraculous Medal – Both are sacramentals given you us by Our Lady, a means of disposing one’s soul to receive grace.

💙Meditate on the Seven Sorrows of Mary – The devotion consists in praying seven Hail Mary’s while meditating on the Seven Sorrows of Mary.

The BVM willingly suffered alongside her Divine Son as he gave his life to save the world, and she felt the bitterness of his passion as only a mother can. This devotion is especially remembered during September, the Month of Our Lady of Sorrows and during the season of Lent, with a specific observance on the Friday of Passion Week.

Our Blessed Mother will take us straight to the heart of Jesus!

 Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of Mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of Sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thy Immaculate Heart. We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life: all that we have, all that we love, all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts, and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families and our country. We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee and may share in the benefits of thy motherly blessing. And, that this act of consecration may be truly fruitful and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and our First Holy Communion. We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics, who are submissive to all directions of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him. We pledge ourselves to keep the Commandments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord’s Day. We pledge ourselves to make the consoling practices of the Christian religion, and above all, Holy Communion, an important part of our lives, in so far as we shall be able to do. Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God and loving Mother of men, to devote ourselves wholeheartedly to the spreading of devotion to thy Immaculate Heart, in order to hasten and assure, through the queenly rule of thy Immaculate Heart, the coming of the kingdom of the Sacred Heart of thy adorable Son, in our own hearts and in those of all men, in our country, and in all the world, as in Heaven, so on earth.
Amen.

OLFProcession10.13 Act of Consecration of the Family to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart, and the request of the Vicar of your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves to you, and to your Immaculate Heart, and recommend to you all the families of our nation and of the world.

Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us and all families as you wish, to accomplish your designs upon the world.

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and earth, and of our family, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism, kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of the Christian life, and an ardent zeal for souls, and for the holiness of family life.

We come with confidence to you, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love; inflame us with the same divine fire which has inflamed your own Immaculate Heart.

Make our hearts and homes your shrine, and through us make the Heart of Jesus rule and triumph in every family in the world. Amen.

Once you have consecrated yourself to Jesus through Mary, live that consecration. St. Louis-Marie de Montfort recommended the following:

  • Keep praying to develop a “great contempt” for the spirit of this world
  • Maintain a special devotion to the Mystery of the Incarnation (e.g., through meditation; spiritual reading; focusing on Feasts centering around the Incarnation, such as the Annunciation and the Nativity, etc.)
  • Frequently recite the Ave, Rosary, and the Magnificat
  • Recite, every day if it is not inconvenient, the “Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin” — a series of Paters, Aves, and Glorias — one Ave for each star in the Virgin’s Crown. St. Louis has a special way of praying the Little Crown, which is recommended.
  • Do everything through, with, in and for Mary for the sake of Jesus, with the prayer, “I am all thine Immaculate One, with all that I have: in time and in eternity” in your heart and on your lips
  • Associate yourself with Mary in a special way before, during, and after Communion (see Supplement of the book, “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” above)
  • Wear a little iron chain (around the neck, arm, waist, or ankle) as an outward sign and reminder of holy slavery. This practice is optional, but very recommended by St. Louis. The appearance of this chain is not further specified.
  • Renew the consecration once a year on the same date chosen above, and by following the same 33-day period of exercises. If desired, also renew the consecration monthly with the prayer, “I am all thine and all I have is thine, O dear Jesus, through Mary, Thy holy Mother.”
  • Optional: Join the Confraternity of Mary, Queen of All Hearts. Their address:

Total Consecration

I am all thine and all I have is thine, O dear Jesus, through Mary, Thy holy Mother.”

I invite you to make a Total Consecration for the first time or prepare to renew your consecration if your original consecration was on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

True Devotion to Mary is nothing more than the perfect and certain and shortest way to live our baptismal vows.”

My family will be preparing for our fifth Annual Consecration Renewal.

I am willing to organize an email loop or private blog for anyone who desires to grow closer to Our Blessed Mother by way of Montfortian Total Consecration. If you are interested, please contact me (JOYfilledfamily at gmail dot com) or leave a comment at this post.

In any case, you will benefit from listening to this sermon from Audio Sancto – True Devotion to Mary.

~~~
By making this consecration to Mary, you are placing yourself completely and totally in her hands. You are giving her permission to form you, discipline you, and mold you into a true follower of Christ. Do not be afraid, though, because she loves you. She will always take care of you, and knows better than anybody how to do so. It is always good to remember her words to St. Juan Diego in Mexico, “Hear and let it penetrate into your heart, my dear little son: let nothing discourage you, nothing depress you: let nothing alter your heart or your countenance. Also do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else that you need?”
The Total Consecration is divided into themes:
Days 1-12: The Spirit of the World
Days 13-19: Knowledge of Self
Days 20-26: Knowledge of Mary
Days 27-33: Knowledge of Jesus
Day 34: Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary
1 21 Feb when February has 29 days. The Feast of the Annunciation is the Feast that St. Louis de Montfort recommends most of all as it is this Feast that commemorates God Himself taking on flesh and, thereby, subjecting even Himself to trust in and dependency on Our Lady
Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ
October 31, 2011 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: 10 October, 10 October Saints, Christ the King, Consecration, Sacred Heart of Jesus
Christus Rex
Christus Rex
Sunday, October 26, 2011 is the feast of the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  One may gain a plenary indulgence by the public recitation of the Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
~~~

The kingship and empire of Christ have been recognized in the pious custom, practiced by many families, of dedicating themselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; not only families have performed this act of dedication, but nations, too, and kingdoms. In fact, the whole of the human race was at the instance of Pope Leo XIII, in the Holy Year 1900, consecrated to the Divine Heart.

We institute the Feast of the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ to be observed yearly throughout the whole world on the last Sunday of the month of October – the Sunday, that is, which immediately precedes the Feast of All Saints. We further ordain that the dedication of mankind to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which Our predecessor of saintly memory, Pope Pius X, commanded to be renewed yearly, be made annually on that day.

~ Quas Primas, Encyclical of Pope Pius XI

Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thy altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy most Sacred Heart. christusrex

Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: "Praise be to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and honor for ever." Amen.
