I apologize for the brief recap.  Unfortunately, I have waited too long to create this post and my placenta brain has taken hold of what little recollection I once had.  I hope to add more to this post as I am able.

Rosa Mystica Girls’s Society met for our fourth JOYfilledfamilymeeting of the 2012-13 Session on First Saturday, December 1, 2012. There were thirty-eight girls in attendance.

This was the last meeting that the girls would be in with their original group; Love of God, Industry, Truthfulness, Humility, Piety, and Obedience.   Next meeting will have a different format and the following months will be on a rotation.

Instruction on the Virtue of Obedience

From this all Christians should learn to be obedient to the commandments of God and of the Church. God has united life or death, blessing or malediction with obedience or disobedience to His commandments, and the Bible shows that obedience pleases God more than sacrifices or the fat of rams, and He despises disobedience as He does witchcraft and idolatry. We must be obedient to the Church because Christ Himself with His Holy Spirit lives in her, and governs her, and has said: Who hears not the Church, let him be to thee a heathen and a publican, therefore, shut out from eternal life. We must be obedient to our parents, because they are placed over us by God, and we are indebted to them, under Him, for life and many benefits. Those children who do not assist their parents when they are old, poor, and helpless, or are ashamed of them, have reason to be afraid, since even Christ Jesus, the God-Man, was obedient and subject in all things to His poor mother, and to a humble mechanic who was only His foster-father. Cursed be he that honoreth not his father and mother; how much more cursed those who despise, deride and abandon their parents? Their eyes will one day be picked out by ravens. If God commanded obstinate and disobedient children to be stoned, what do those not deserve who even strike or abuse their parents?

Father B introduced to the girls to the Christkindl.

My co-Christkindl Info Handout with Prayer Chartleader and I coordinated our version of the Christkindl, using the Trapp Family model. 

Our Chirstkindl will take the form of a prayer exchange with a small gift exchange after Christ’s Birth.  You can take a look at our handout, here.  Our handout included a prayer for friends, to be used in the case that the girls needed some guidance.

About half of the girls completed their aprons.  The other half were on task to complete their aprons by the end of this meeting.

Additional activities were made available to those who were completed with all their tasks.

  • Jump-rope
  • packaging baby items
  • assembling the name tags
  • creating embellishments for apron and/or name tag
  • floaters – assigned to walk around and find those in need of assistance

The meeting was a success – all the girls completed their aprons!

The girls were invited by Mrs. P to assist with a service project, Hostesses for the Altar Guild Reception to be held on the Feast of St. Stephen – Dec. 26.

Rosa Mystica Girls’s Society met for our third meeting of the 2012-13 Session on First Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. There were twenty-eight girls in attendance for Mass (as a group) and thirty-two girls for the meeting.

The girls went to their assigned group: Love of God, Industry, Truthfulness, Humility, Piety, and Obedience.

Lesson:

Father B gave his lesson on Love of God with reflection on the life of a saint.  — More details to come. —

Skill:

apron-front-view-v2_thumb2The girls were given their second overview of their sewing project, a simple apron. Each girl was instructed to begin where they left off from the previous meeting.

A complete tutorial for this project was handed out at the previous meeting and is to be included in the girls’ Hospitality Binders.

Four sewing machines were assigned to the older girls so that they could start their sewing.  While three machines were reserved for the younger girls to finish up their already started aprons.

There were a few girls who needed to prep their apron. Those girls were given pre-cut fabric and ties. They were instructed to complete the necessary steps so that they could begin their sewing at next month’s meeting.

  1. turn ties if needed

  3. pin ties to top fabric
  4. pin lining to top fabric, enclosing the ties
  5. help one another

As always, the sewing helpers did a wonderful job instructing the girls while allowing them to be an active participant in the sewing process.

Fr. B. made his way back to our meeting to supervise the girl’s sewing skills.  Fr. B. knows a thing or two about sewing!  He also provided the girls and moms with some entertainment.

There were no handouts for this meeting since it was a follow-up of virtue and sewing skills from our meeting in October.  The girls were encouraged to take out their Hospitality Binders and work on previous handouts.

Wrap-up:

The girls wrapped up their projects and labeled their work so that it could be easily found at the next meeting. Their group areas were tidied. The worker moms did their magic while I closed the meeting with a recap of the day’s lesson and skill.

The girls were informed that they could take home their apron with the consent of mom.  

“Yes! You may take home the apron to work on it as long as you follow the directions that were given in class, bring it back the following month, and I have the consent of your mom.”

The girls were also praised for their hard work in our Fall Bake Sale on October 21.

We closed the meeting with the Angelus, led by Fr. B.

We especially appreciate all the help from the moms sharing their skills on the sewing machine. Our goal is to assist the girls in following the complete directions (without deviation) in the skill set while being as hands-off as possible. It’s a fine dance but you all managed to make it look effortless. Great Job! We hope to see you all again for the next two months while we complete the aprons. ALL FOR!

Rosa Mystica Girls’s Society met for our second meeting of the 2012-13 Session on First Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. There were twenty-eight girls in attendance for Mass (as a group) and thirty-two girls for the meeting.

Once again, the girls were divided into six groups; Love of God, Industry, Truthfulness, Humility, Piety, and Obedience.

Lesson:

Our new Chaplain, Father B, visited the girls while they were eating snack. The girls stood-up to greet him. Father excused them and invited them to finish their food. In fact, he insisted that they finish eating before he began his lesson. I think it’s a French thing.

Father B’s lesson was on the topic of hospitality and love of God. He spoke about the life of San Bruno, the Benedictine Monks, and the Cartesian monks.

Here are some highlights that I took note of from Father’s talk.

San Bruno, whose feast day we celebrate today (10.6), spent time with the Benedictine Monks. The monk’s role is hospitality, to welcome peosan-bruno_thumb4ple. They will take care of everyone who comes to the door. San Bruno wanted more enclosure. He founded the Cartesian Monks with the approval of San Hugues.

The Cartesians live in a monastery that is divided into small houses. Each Cartesian monk lives in his one bedroom, in solitude. He cannot speak all his life. He eats in his room. He prays in solitude. The monk’s life consists solely of work, prayer, and study. It is the most difficult life.

It is said that there are many saints in the Cartesian monasteries that no one knows, only God. They desire to be in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. They have a profound humility. In fact, a Cartesian will never name himself as author of a book. His work will only state that it was authored by a Cartesian Monk. Few monks have been canonized because of their humility to remain unknown.

Why did His heart re-start after three days (Resurrection)? HE LOVES US! Every heartbeat of the Lord is for us, every single one of us!

Is the heart of Jesus still beating today? Yes, because He loves us.

Only one man has listened to the heart of Jesus, who is he? John.

You must take the time to listen to your heart to understand how is works.

In time of trial or temptation, seek to listen to the heart of Jesus. Say, “I would like to listen to the heart of Jesus.” You will see your heart come down and the temptation will be removed.

Love God as He as loved you. Pray for the Blessed Mother’s intercession.

AN ACT OF LOVE

O my God, I love Thee with my whole heart and above all things, because Thou art the supreme Good, and most worthy of our love. For the love of Thee I will love my neighbor as myself.

Skill:

The first group consisted of nineteen girls, ages 9-10. Their aprons were completely prepped for them to begin sewing. Note, the focus of this skill set is to give the girls an introduction to sewing so that they gain interest to continue to learn about the skill.

The other group consisted of nineteen girls, ages 11-13. Those girls were given pre-cut fabric and ties. They were instructed to complete the necessary steps so that they could begin their sewing at next month’s meeting.

Majority of the younger girls had the opportunity to sew at the machine with the guidance of a mom or older sister. Those that were not able to sew will be the first on the sewing machine in November.

The sewing helpers did a wonderful job instructing the girls while allowing them to be an active participant in the sewing process.

We began to close the meeting at 11:45pm, thanks to the reminder from Mrs. G – time flies when you’re having fun!

The girls were informed of the new handouts that were placed in their binders. They were encouraged to complete the related activities to further develop a Love of God, hospitality, and sewing skills.

The question of the day was answered, “Can I take home my apron to work on it?” The answer was, “Yes! You may take home the apron to work on it as long as you follow the directions that were given in class, bring it back the following month, and I have the consent of your mom.”

The girls were also reminded about the upcoming Fall Bake Sale on October 21 – sign-up today!

RMGS Meeting ~ Hospitality

September 1 was the first meeting for the RMGS 2012-13 session.  It was also the first meeting under new leadership since the inception of RMGS.  Mrs. P and I were beyond excited to see familiar faces among a few newcomers. 

We had a wonderful turnout of thirty-nine girls (out of 41).  Twenty-six of the girls sat together for Mass.

All returned to the gym for the remainder of our meeting.  Snacks were provided by LC, LG, and WG.  Additional snacks were brought by EF and CP.  Remember, all snacks are welcome!

The girls were then divided into six groups.  Each group was given a name of a virtue that we will be covering this year – Love of God, Industry, Truthfulness, Humility, Piety, and Obedience.  The girls will rotate into a new group at the start of a new skill.

The first meeting took on a different format than many were familiar with from the past.  In fact, it was different than what we plan to conduct for the remaining meetings.  We wanted the first meeting to be somewhat informal and to serve as a welcome back get-together.   We covered majority of the housekeeping topics for the coming year.  We also gave the girls an opportunity to get to know one another with a fun ice-breaker game, I know Something…

The girls received their RMGS – Hospitality Binder and a brief overview of the outline for the year. 

RMGS mission is to help young girls grow in faith, virtue, and service, through hospitality, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Fr. S gave a splendid talk to the girls on our focus for the year, hospitality.  He was charismatic and related to the girls in a way that I had not seen before.  Deo gratias!  We will miss him this year but look forward to our new Spiritual Director.  The girls gave Father a birthday send-off (his birthday was 9.6) and he gave them a blessing.

The girls generated three lists of ways to show hospitality; in the home, at church, at other places.  Each group contributed to the list.  We will continue to add to the list throughout the year as we follow Fr. Lasance’s Catholic Girls’ Guide and grow in virtue.  We recommend that each girl have their own copy of Fr. Lasance’s Catholic Girls’ Guide.

Next, the girls received a brief overview of our next skill to come, sewing.  They briefly reviewed the sewing section in their RMGS – Hospitality Binders.  The girls are to continue reading the sewing section and complete the sewing machine anatomy prior to our next meeting.  We encourage moms to help them along with their introduction to sewing.  We will sew an apron over the next three meetings.

The girls were given instructions to complete an embroidered name tag using the split stich.  The name tags were a simple task to allow the girls some hand sewing practice and help give us an idea of the skill levels that we have to work with.  It was (and will continue to be) imperative that the girls follow the instructions during our meetings.  We realize that the girls have many great ideas and their creativity is often endless but we want to keep everyone on the same page so that each girl can acquire a basic understanding of simple skills.  We encourage the girls to expand upon the skills introduced (at the meetings) while at home.

The meeting ended with an overview of the meeting and sharing of projects.  We closed with a prayer taken from Fr. Lasance, found on the RMGS Prayer Page.

PRAYER AFTER INSTRUCTION
We give Thee thanks, merciful God, for the instruction and direction which we have received. Grant us Thy grace that we may lay the lesson to heart and carry it into action, to Thy glory and our eternal welfare. Furthermore we pray Thee to pour forth Thy blessing upon our parents and superiors, our teachers and benefactors, and to recompense them abundantly for all the good which they have been the means of bringing to us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I’m a Sewing Machine

….O.K. not really but I did sew last week.  I found a cute idea in blogland and thought I’d give it a try.  The directions said it would take about 10 min.  Try 10 min x 3…or 6.  I have a long way to go!  Sew simple is an oxymoron in my world.


The directions can be found at Trey & Lucy. 


Sweetie was so proud of her new creation.  The candy corns fit her perfectly.  I’m thankful that her brother’s shirt that she had been wearing for days, matched the dress.  I doubt she would have changed had I tried.



Rose will be making a second dress for Sparkles.  I hope to post pictures.
