The time has come, Rose is wrapping up her homeschool years.  We decided to have some fun after our school photo session.

We remain steadfast in prayer as she continues to discern His holy will.

PRAYER FOR YOUTH TO BEG THE DIVINE DIRECTION
IN THE CHOICE OF A STATE OF LIFE.

O ALMIGHTY God! Whose wise and amiable prov-
idence watches over every human event, deign to
be my light and my counsel in all my undertakings,
particularly in the choice of a state of life. I know
that on this important step my sanctification and
salvation may in a great measure depend. I know
that I am incapable of discerning what may be best
for me; therefore I cast myself into Thy arms, beseech-
ing Thee, my God, Who hast sent me into this world
only to love and serve Thee, to direct by Thy grace
every moment and action of my life to the glorious
end of my creation. I renounce most sincerely every
other wish, than to fulfill Thy designs on my soul,
whatever they may be; and I beseech Thee to give me
the grace, by imbibing the true spirit of a Christian,
to qualify myself for any state of life to which Thy
adorable providence may call me. O my God! when-
ever it may become my duty to make a choice, do Thou
be my light and my counsel, and mercifully deign to
make the way known to me wherein I should walk, for
I have lifted up my soul to Thee. Preserve me from
listening to the suggestions of my own self-love, or
worldly prudence, in prejudice to Thy holy inspirations.
Thy good Spirit lead me into the right way, and
Thy adorable providence place me, not where I may
be happiest, according to the world, but in that state
in which I Shall love and serve Thee most perfectly,
and meet with most abundant means for working out
my salvation. This is all that I ask and all that I
desire; for what would it avail me to gain the whole
world, if, in the end, I were to lose my soul and to be
so unfortunate as to prefer temporal advantages and
worldly honors to the enjoyment of Thy divine presence
in a happy eternity?

Most holy Virgin Mary, take me under thy protection.

My good angel guardian and patron saints, pray
for me. Amen.

Dad and I took the kids to the park for our school photos.  It took two hours for us to wrangle up the boys who seemed to have an aversion to the camera since it meant that they actually had to change out of their pjs.

The littles were rewarded with licorice and a trip to the playground while Rose’s photo session extended a bit longer since she’s a senior and we wanted to capture some special pics.

Learning Room

September 18, 2012 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Home, Homeschooling, Not Back to School Blog Hop, Schoolroom

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.  ~ Romans 12:2

~~~
Our learning room has changed with the new house. It’s a bit more simplified than last year’s version.
This is how our learning room looks when not in session.  The learning wall is covered with the curtains and our nice red armoire (Potter Barn find on Craigslist for $150) is closed to hide our book and supply storage.
Our learning room took the place of our formal dining room.  It’s connected to the formal living holy room and is seen by all who enter.
Here’s a complete look at the formal dinning room and living room.
The learning window is open.  I used small suctions to hang my learning guides on the window.  The guides range for grades K-4th.
I hung last year’s school garland, made from addition flashcards.  It will soon be replaced by clear fishing line to hang all of my children’s artwork.
The books in the red armoire are organized by subject topic, not grade.  They are stored in magazine files and library metal files (found at the thrift store for $0.25 ea.).  The boys have their wood puzzles and manipulatives store on the lower shelves behind the doors.
Our table (another Craigslist find) currently sits with it’s leaf installed.  I find that it works better when it sits six vs. four.  It gives the littles room to spread out to avoid conflicts.
Rose has her office/craft room to work in for her final year of highschool.
The learning wall consists of my learning window covered in teaching guides and a white board (that was purchased over ten years ago when we started to homeschool).  There is a second curtain rod behind the curtains.  This rod is used to hang additional teaching guides, posters, art work, or whatever we want on display.
The curtains rarely get closed on the learning wall but when they do, this is what it looks like.  I extended the curtain rod to cover the white board.  It keeps the room looking like a living room and gives the impression that there is one very large window.
The piano sits right next to the white board, in the holy room.  It’s a beautiful sight to see, children learning, making joyful music, and others in prayer.
O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! ~ Psalm 95:1-2
Heavenly Father, you have given us the model of life in the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Bless our home and our learning rooms.
Teach us to see Jesus in the members of our families, especially in their distressing disguise.
Help us, O Loving Father, to grow joyfully in your ways with all the opportunities that you give and take.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
Holy Guardian Angels, be always with us, guide and protect us.
Amen.
Growing in Holiness
August 19, 2012 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Homeschooling, Meditation
“…your chances to grow in holiness, your chances to conform your will to God’s, to unite your will with His, your chances to live and teach your children love, are about to multiplied.”
~~~

There are many reflections playing in my head and stirring my heart. Many of which center around my current state in life and need for refinement as my family gears up for a “new” school year.  Why Homeschool  is brief audio meditation from Luke 1128 for you to listen to as you embark on a new school year. It’s a short encouraging reminder to fight the good fight, to remain steadfast in peace, and to unite our will with His at all times. DEO GRATIAS!!

May you have a blessed school year that is fully united to His will!
Ad Jesum per Mariam,

“Remember success in homeschooling is not about reaching a certain goal or end but rather in the doing of it, and that is why it is so difficult – to strive especially when victory seems so far away or impossible. Be at peace and treat each moment as God’s precious gift for you.”

Homeschool Encouragement

'12 Northern California Catholic Homeschooling Conference

I attended a homeschool conference in April, Northern California Catholic Homeschooling Conference.  It was somewhat of a last minute decision to attend since I had attended another conference in July.  Praise God, I was given the grace to take my own advice.

I’m not willing to pass up spiritual opportunities that are offered in my backyard.  My spiritual bank is full, thanks be to God, but I know how suddenly it can be emptied.  I trust that this conference will yield a nice reserve in my spiritual bank.  All food for the soul is welcome!

My bank is full!  DEO GRATIAS!!!

Below is my outline from Laura Berquist’s talk from 2012 Northern California Catholic Homeschooling Conference, Encouraging Cooperation.  You can also view/print/upload my detailed notes from here.
