Daily Rhythm

January 7, 2025 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Family Adventures, Rule of Life Leave a Comment

After a break filled with health scares, holy days, family outings, and cherished restful days with my beloved, we are easing back into our regular daily rhythm. It’s a gentle but necessary shift, one that mirrors the wisdom Holy Mother Church offers us in her liturgical timing.

How prudent it is, as Catholics, to align our lives with the liturgical calendar that the Church has established—times for feasting and fasting, rest and labor, prayer and work. It’s not about perfection but about deepening our love and obedience to our duties of state, trusting that each small act done with great love has eternal significance.

“A steadfast attention to the work at hand, with no hurry or agitation, is the surest way to accomplish it well.” #StFrancisdeSales

The rhythm of daily life, grounded in faith and simplicity, is an offering of love to God and those entrusted to us.

I give thanks for the moments of respite and for the beauty of God’s creation, which has nourished us in every way. Those sacred pauses, shared with family and embraced in His love, have renewed us for the tasks ahead.

Now we return, not with burdens, but with joy—grateful for the order that sustains us and ready to carry on, step by step, for His greater glory. 🙏🏼

Practices to Bring in the New Year

Embracing the New Year with Faith and Purpose

As we step into the New Calendar Year, I’m reflecting on the beautiful traditions our Catholic faith offers to counter the secular pull and guide our spiritual journey.

The Church’s New Year began with Advent, setting the tone for a season of anticipation and reflection. In addition to this, my family and I have adopted special practices to infuse our lives with purpose throughout the year.

One cherished tradition includes allowing a saint to choose us for the year, becoming a new patron for our personal & family litanies. It’s a unique journey as we learn about the saint, call upon their intercession, and joyously celebrate their feast day.

Choosing a word of the year is another heartfelt process. I delve into spiritual reading and prayer, reflecting on the past year to discern a word that will guide my spiritual growth. I seek the counsel of my husband. This intentional word becomes a source of inspiration throughout the year. Often, I pair it with a related scripture verse — my verse of the year.

But the journey doesn’t end there. We make a commitment to a spiritual plan, a Rule of Life or beyond, designed to combat specific faults and tend to spiritual duties. This commitment is a continuation of what was initiated in Advent and almost always involves obtaining spiritual direction.

As we usher in the New Year, we find solace and inspiration in the Feast of the Circumcision of our Lord on Jan. 1, a Holy Day of obligation.

Assisting at Holy Mass is the perfect way to start anything new, offer our gratitude, and make a heartfelt offering to God, seeking His grace for the journey ahead.

May this year be filled with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to our spiritual growth. 🌟

Catholic Planners – GIVEAWAY

August 24, 2023 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Giveaway, Liturgical Calendar, Rule of Life Leave a Comment

A GIVEAWAY on this Octave Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary , the feast of her Immaculate Heart (8.22).

Here ya go! This is for all those who are planners and are committed to following their Rule of Life or desire to develop a better system and have order in their daily lives — everyone!

“External lack of order reflects internal lack of order.” – #StFrancisdeSales

TWO WINNERS WILL BE SELECTED!

Having a good planner that keeps the Faith at the forefront is so helpful. There are many options out there. In the past I have shared how to do it for free or on a very limited budget. I have also shared the crème de la crème option that incorporates everything into one.

These planners fall somewhere in between those, nothing inferior, just different needs and price point.

Both of these planners are excellent quality and both incorporate all the liturgical calendars — historical, traditional, and new. None is emphasized over the other, all informational.

The paper weight is perfect and the covers are stunning. Both also feature a saint of the week and have lists of patron saints, feast days, prayers, and space for pertinent things that you may want to keep track of for the year, such as personal goals or reading log.L

The Agnus Dei Planner caught my eye as I’ve been looking for a planner that I could begin another annual liturgical planner in. This one would be lovely on a desk or on display in a prominent place in the home. Its hard cover is durable and lovely with the Lamb of God design.

It has a spiral inner core which allows ease of turning pages and less damage to pages. The space to write in each day is perfect for keeping track of key things. It is not necessarily a planner to track all of one’s daily tasks or full daily rhythm.

The colored images of the saints are beautiful portrayals that help to capture their dignity andraise up our minds & hearts as good art should. I’m so excited to use this planner for my liturgical planning and continue to use it as a reference throughout the years — not how it is intended but how it will best fit my needs.

The JMJ weekly planner has a wonderful cover — classy leather-like with embossed JMJ and year. It also has a band to keep it closed when not in use. It is simple and sleek. It is elegant and can definitely be appreciated by men and women. It has hours listed on each line to be used for hourly tasks or appointments. But it could also be used as a journal or habit tracker. It can easily be used on a desk or thrown in a bag. I think it would make an excellent gift for anyone —Confirmation, graduation, birthday or just because!

Catholic Life Planner

August 9, 2023 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Liturgical Calendar, Organization, Rule of Life, Spiritual Duties, Uncategorized Leave a Comment

A simplified morning routine is where I’m at, currently. I’ve been led to less — less devotions, less books, and overall less distractions. But none of that has to equate to less Faith, love, or spiritual growth. In fact, it has been my experience that the opposite is true — a deeper Faith, greater love, and more fervent prayer life.

Parts of my morning routine are constants from the years (not all is pictured) but there has been one new addition, the SAINTMAKER – Catholic Life Planner.

I have been using it to various degrees over the past two years and have passively shared it with those interested, partly because I had my own routine and checklists.

Finally, a good friend convinced me to share this wonderful resource with all. She’s a real Titus II woman — a homeschooling mother of 12 with only two left in the home and an abundance of grandchildren. She reminded me that I do not need to discern for others but only share what has helped me along and trust that they WILL properly discern for themselves if something is a good fit and within their means.

The SAINTMAKER basically has everything that I’ve already been using — all in one place, perfectly bound, making it inviting and accessible. I take it everywhere I go, now!
