This is a belated birthday post for Sweetie, Papi’s birthday buddy. She turned seven on August 25, 2012.

She opted for a simple dinner for her birthday date. Dad and I doubled it up, of course. It was an anniversary-birthday date night.

The food was not great but Sweetie didn’t mind. She was too busy being giddy about being out alone with mom and dad.

We returned home for Dad’s cake creation – a fruit cake like no other.

Sweetie celebrated her birthday with Papi the night before.

She open her presents from Nana and Papa.

She received a cute magnetic doll and a digital camcorder. She’s been making movie non-stop.

We give thanks for Sweetie and each day You grant us. We pray that she walk in Your light and be filled with Your JOY.

This is a belated birthday post for Papi’s fifth birthday – August 24, 2012.

He planned his birthday date with mom and dad and invited all of his sibling. His spot of choice was Chuck E. Cheese’s. He even found his own coupon.

We went during the early hours to avoid a crowd. Papi passed out the tokens and they ventured off. It was nice to have Veggie Tales music playing in the background instead of pop music.

The kids shared a cheese pizza and had a sliver of chocolate cake.

We returned home to ~~detox from the sugar and excitement~~ rest. Rose and I prepped for our birthday-buddies’ dinner with Nana and Papa.

We made one of Papi’s favorite dishes, baked ziti and tri-tip, it was gluten free. Turns out, Papi isn’t fond of pasta anymore but he did get his fill of meat.

Rose made a delicious gluten free chocolate strawberry cake.

The birthday buddies opened their gifts from Nana and Papa.

Papi received an eclectic guitar and a digital camera.

The night ended with a late night birthday swim.

sparkles turned 9 on may 18. she was certain to follow tradition, a birthday date night with mom and dad.

we left in the early afternoon to embark on her birthday plans.

sparkles planned a day of shopping, museum, dinning out, and celebration at home with her siblings.

dad and i took sparkles shopping. she selected a sniff-n-smell t-shirt, flip flops, headband and used her birthday gift card for more goodies.

we spent over an hour at the local science museum. it was the best deal in town. admission was only $4 since dad and I received the teacher’s discount. we had the museum all to ourselves for only $4!!

sparkles selected her regular birthday dinner, mexican food. this is the third time that she has selected to dine out at this restaurant for her birthday. it’s not her fav but she is one for tradition.

she selected her favortie sweet treat – apple pie. she desired to bring a whole pie back home to share with everyone else, only after she stopped once more to pick up ~~gifts~~ party favors for her siblings.

sparkles chose a pirate set for papi, sword for dragonfly, princess set for her and sweetie, and soft sock for her big sis.

papa and nana surprised sparkles with a basketball hoop.

may the good Lord bless our sparkle who brings your joy to all. may you continue to fuel her permanent smile and giving heart. may you be her everything, always!

Dragonfly turned two!

His birthday buddy, Sparkles decorated the house with signs and balloons.

It was a low key celebration in the home since many of us were sick.

we escaped for the weekend in celebration of dad’s birthday. it was a last minute getaway that came together within four days and managed to stay within our very limited budget. praise God!

we traveled to a near-by getaway that seemed like we were in another country—Castillo de Amorosa in Napa, CA.

it was a first for us, on many levels. we haven’t taken a weekend getaway (without kids) in 6 six years, first trip to napa as a couple, and first wine tasting.

we were a king and queen for the weekend while rose manned the home front.

our trip started with sun. Mass (in the Extraordinary Form)at the castle’s chapel.

then we ventured on for a full tour and wine tasting. we were blessed to have a semi-private tour. there was only one other couple in our group. dad and I did not want to leave the authentic, medieval castle.

we laid low after our visit to the castle. we had no plans and winged the rest of the trip with whatever our hearts desired–simple food and relaxed days.

we thoroughly enjoyed discussing our date night questions.

it was a blessed weekend. we give all thanks and glory to the GOOD LORD!
