Sunflower Headbands

October 10, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Crafts, Little Flowers

The girls celebrated the traditional Feast Day of St. Therese at our second meeting on Oct. 3.  Each Little Flower received a sunflower headband in honor of her feast day.

Handprint Lily Pen

I held my second Little Flowers meeting of the year on the the first Saturday of October.  St. Faustina, Mercy and Lily were the themes.  I chose a Handprint Lily for the craft but added a twist.
Here is my tutorial.
I prepped all the supplies into individual baggies for each girl.  I would suggest to have the hands traced and cut prior to the meeting/craft.  It is helpful to have a few extra glue guns available.
I placed a tag with the memory-scripture verse for Mercy on the pens that the girls will be delivering to the women on our parish staff.  Each girl had the option of putting the tag on their pen to give away.

Have mercy on Me, Oh God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion, wipe out my offense.  ~Psalms: 51.3-4

Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary

October 7, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Marian, Our Lady of the Rosary

Oct. 7
Lord, fill our hearts with your love, and as you revealed to us by an angel the coming of your Son as man, so lead us through his suffering and death to the glory of his resurrection, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Feast Day of the Little Flower

October 1, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: St. Therese

Oct. 3 – St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, virgin
On St. Therese’s Deathbed
“On the day of her death, in the evening of September 30th 1897, St. Therese said: ‘Never would I have believed it was possible to suffer so much! Never! Never! I cannot explain this except by the ardent desires I have had to save souls.’ St. Therese suffered for you also, so that you too could be ‘possessed’ by God as she was, so that you too could live an Evangelical radicalism as she did.”   (The Gift of Faith, pg. 92-93)

Dedication of St. Michael the Archangel

September 29, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: St. Michael

Dedication of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel (Michaelmas Day)
Prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel

This prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII. He wrote it after experiencing a vision that showed the battle between between the Church and Satan. In 1886, this prayer and the Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina) were to be recited at the end of the “low” Mass (“low” meaning the Mass that was spoken, with no music, compared to the “high”, or sung Masses). This practice was discontinued around 1970.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safegaurd against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who roam about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Catholic Encyclopedia – St. Michael the Archangel
One of the principal angels; his name, “Who is Like Unto God”, was the war-cry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against the enemy and his followers.

St. Micahel & All Angels
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world — he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. — Revelation 12:7-9 [RSV]
