Necklace for Charity

In preparation for Christ’s coming, Christmas, we are finding ways to give what we have been blessed with.  However, at this time, we are unable to purchase goods for those in need.  We are able to give from what we have.  We were blessed to be able to purchase a nice stock of tile necklace supplies last year.

We long to help those in real need.  So when we heard of Water 4 Christmas from Meg, we knew it was an answer to our prayers.  Water for Christmas is a grass roots movement bringing both awareness and real "on the ground" change to Africa’s water crisis.

We are people…Moms, Dads, Sons, Daughters. United by the desire to keep our eyes and hearts open. To increasingly live for things bigger than ourselves. So, we’re going to give up something. Big somethings. Little somethings. Going without so the people in Liberian villages can have access to clean water…the Moms, Dads, Sons, Daughters.

All money donated there goes directly to charity: water who in turn uses 100% of their donations to drill for fresh water.

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of the money goes to direct project costs.  With the help of exemplary organizations on the ground and individuals here, we can drill wells and provide people with this basic, essential need.

Water 4 Christmas opened an etsy shop.  Our donation is listed here.  Many other items are also listed.  Go check it out and make a purchase.  All profits go directly to building wells for safe water in West Africa.

All orders made this week are guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas.

Give a gift for Jesus!

Winner, Winner…..

O LADY OF GOOD REMEDY, source of unfailing help, grant that we may draw from thy treasury of graces in our time of need.  Touch the hearts of sinners, that they may seek reconciliation and forgiveness. Bring comfort to the afflicted and the lonely; help the poor and the hopeless; aid the sick and the suffering. May they be healed in body and strengthened in spirit to endure their sufferings with patient resignation and Christian fortitude.

Rose and I signed up to support the May Mary Giveaway at CatholicMom.com.  Our delivery of the Marian tile necklace has taken some time since our arms have been full of JOY – with Baby G.

The More, The Better

December 30, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Crafts, Glass Tile Necklaces

Rose and I made more tiles for Christmas gifts.  We’re hooked.
for Rose’s girlfriends
for Godmothers and other special women
the entire collection
Rose used a ball-chain necklace and black cord necklace for her friends.  I used a higher quality sterling silver chains that I found here for the Godmothers.  I used keychain rings for the St. Joseph tiles for the Godfathers (not pictured).
The paper weights were for our parish Priests and Rose’s choirmaster (2 paperweights are not shown).  I used the holy cards from our Priests’ first blessings and 25th Anniversary.  Rose selected a card with Gregorian chant for her choirmaster.
for nana and auntie
The top large medal was for Nana.  It is reversible with sis’s kids on the other side.  The bottom medal was for Auntie (Rose’s Nina).  It’s reversible with Our Lady of Guadalupe on the reverse side.

Our Newest Craft – Glass Tile

December 15, 2009 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Crafts, Glass Tile Necklaces

I’ve been working on some crafts-gifts.  I made these cute necklaces for my husband’s female co-workers.  I made key rings for the male co-workers (which I forgot to photograph).

These were my first attempts.
I purchased all of my supplies (aside from the paper) from this store and used this tutorial.
Rose and I have plans to make many more necklaces this week for gifts.  I hope to take pictures of them all.
