Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Ecce Virgo concípiet, et páriet Fílium, et vocábitur nomen ejus Emmánuel.
Behold a Virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a Son, and His name shall be called Emmanuel. (Introit)

Divine Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
October 11(Traditional)
DOUBLE / SECOND CLASS

The dogma of the Divine Motherhood was defined by the Council of Ephesus in 431. In his encyclical proclaiming the present feast, which commemorated the 15th centenary of the council, Pope Pius XI especially requested that we pray to Mary for the return of the separated Churches of the East. For these Churches had united with the Pope and the whole Church at Ephesus in proclaiming her to be Mother of God, and to this day they retain a deep devotion to her. Mary is their Mother, also, for in becoming Mother of our Redeemer she became the spiritual mother of all men.

Deus, qui de beatae Maríae Vírginis utero Verbum tuum, Angelo nuntiante, carnem suscípere voluísti: praesta supplícibus tuis; ut, qui vere eam Genitrícem Dei credimus, ejus apud te intercessionibus adjuvemur.
O God who didst will that Thy Word should take flesh, at the message of an angel, in the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary; grant unto us Thy suppliants that we who believe her to be indeed the Mother of God may be aided by her intercession with Thee.

we were blessed to be able to attend this year’s parish festivities.

only the littles dressed up this year but all were excited.

PA290813

sparkles was ruth.

PA290820

sweetie was martha.

PA310826-001

dragonfly was st. george.  here he is waiting for the parade of saints.

St. Michael IMG_4684

papi was st. michael.  there was no convincing him that angel wings are for boys, too.

IMG_4682

also, it turns out that dressing at home beats dressing up elsewhere.

PA310841

both papi and dragon barely made it through the litany of saints with costumes on.  here they are, ten minutes into the parade of saints, sans costumes.  we did manage to keep their pants on.

PA310876

rose passed on dressing up this year but she did wear a fleur de lis shirt in honor of our blessed mother.

Mary and Martha PA310837

parade of saints is held after the litany of saints in the church.  i missed the photo opp for sparkles.

Ruth and Naomi PA310866

here she is with her mother-in-law friend.

PA310866

the communion of saints gathered out back for the games and treats.

fun was had by all ages.  fr. b declared a water war on dad.  it ended with a botched attempt to dunk dad in the water trough.

PA310966

fr. m told saintly ghost stories.

PA310961

saints inspected their loot before departing.

the night ended with wet littles scurrying to put on their pjs in the car for the hour drive home.

All Hallows' Eve Sign for front porch

My family is blessed to be able to spend All Hallows Eve celebrating the Saints with friends and Priests in our parish community.

I usually make a cute sign out of scrapbook materials to let let all would be trick-or-treaters aware that we do not have goodies. Here is the sign that I will be posting this year.

Vigil of All Saints
The Liturgical Year Vol.14 ~ Dom Gueranger Imprimatur 1927
Let us prepare our souls for the graces heaven is about to shower upon the earth in return for its homage. Tomorrow the Church will be so overflowing with joy, that she will seem to be already in possession of eternal happiness;but to-day she appears in the garb of penance, confessing that she is still an exile. Let us fast and pray with her; for are not we too pilgrims and strangers in this world, where all things are fleeting and hurry on to death? Year by year, as the great solemnity  comes round, it has gathered from among our former companions new saints, who bless our tears and smile upon our songs of hope. Year by year the appointed time draws nearer, when we ourselves, seated at the heavenly banquet, shall receive the homage of those who succeed us, and hold out a helping hand to draw them after us to the home of everlasting happiness. Let us learn, from this very hour, to emancipate our souls; let us keep our hearts free, in the midst of the vain solicitudes and false pleasures of a strange land: the exile has no care but his banishment, no joy but that which gives him a foretaste of his fatherland.

St. Isaac Jogues

September 26, 2012 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: 09 September, 09 September Saints, 10 October, 10 October Saints, Jesuit, Martyr, St. Isaac Jogues, St. Jogues

O God, You blessed the first fruits of the faith in the vast expanse of North America by the missionary labors and martyrdom of blessed Isaac, John, and their companions. May the harvest for Christ grow daily more abundant in the whole world through the intercession of these saints. Through our Lord .

DOUBLE, SECOND CLASS / RED
These eight French Jesuit missioners, the first canonized saints of the North American continent, labored and died among the most barbaric of red men in the most impenetrable fastnesses of the 17th-century New World. After struggling with unbelievable privations and hardships, they were severely tortured and martyred by the Iroquois Indians between the years 1642 and 1649. Fathers Isaac Jogues and Anthony Daniel and the two lay oblates, John Lalande and Rene Goupil, gave their lives in what is now New York State; Fathers John de Brebeuf, Gabriel Lalemant, Charles Garnier, and Noel Chabanel in central Canada.
