Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Bethlehem – Day 1

July 7, 2011 by Lena {JOYfilledfamily} Filed Under: Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Bethlehem

Day 1:  Mission San Juan Bautista to Salinas – 15 miles

The theme for Chartres 2011 was "The Gospel of Life." Each day of Pilgrimage had a sub-theme and a Patron Saint.  I adopted Chartres theme and Patron Saints.

On the first day of Pilgrimage, the patron saint was  Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and the sub-theme was The Gospel of Life, a Gift of God.

This was a beautiful consolation for me since my family has an ever-growing devotion to Blessed Mother Teresa.  It confirmed that our participation in this pilgrimage was God’s will and that Bl. Mother Teresa was walking with us (interceding for us).

Rose and I woke up at 3am to pack the car and depart the house for our 2 hour drive to Mission San Juan Bautista.

We started the day with Mass at the Mission. Fr. L traveled over 2.5 hours to celebrate Mass for the pilgrims. We were warmly greeted by the beautiful Latin Mass community. They even provided us with breakfast prior to our first departure. It was a wonderful start of our journey.
